Despite the daily TNT newspaper stating several times that the Levy passed by a majority, if they actually looked at the details on the auditors website, they would see it appears to have failed. Yes, it received a huge 68.66% of YES votes, but as of this date only 666 YES votes were returned and in order to have the supermajority required, it needed 758 YES votes with a 60% margin. The vote isn’t official until 9/2, but the count hasn’t changed in days, so it looks like we may be stuck with the unholy 666. Bummer. So I hear it will be on the ballot again in November. Is there any better chance to get the needed number of voters to return the ballots in order for this Emergency Medical Service levy to pass?

Unfortunately there is so much voter apathy, and such a small percent of the people vote, I don’t know if the results will be enough different in November to get it passed then. It will take people realizing their vote will have a very direct impact on the future EMS services they will receive. Some serious campaigning, more than a few firefighters waving signs, has to occur for this to happen. People need to realize the consequences of this failing to them personally, enough to impact getting the vote out.

We live in Majestic View Estates. As far as we know we are within the city limits of Orting. How come this item was not on our ballots? We (wife and I) would certainly have voted for this ballot request. We have never voted against fire/police or EMT requests where ever we have lived. Thank you.
