Mayor Temple’s career change to be a real estate agent at this point in time with the impending election is very interesting. Eventually somebody is going to come to the city and ask for a rezone or variance and THEN there could be a conflict, or suspected conflict of interest. How will the mayor seperate speculation of personal gain and avoid using insider information about companies who inquire of the city about locating in Orting and what properties are available such as Nestle and the Engfer situation last year? While it is normal for small town mayors to have a seperate job, how does one balance the responsibilities and avoid these concerns by the citizens?

This is where ‘assume’ makes an ass out of you and me. I assumed in voting for Mayor we’d have a person that would act in the public interest and work to generate public trust. We all have a right to make a living, but to pull a “Dick Cheney” and use your position for self-profit and convenience seems a horrible blind eye to the citizens she’s sworn to serve. So while people under her are fired for their shenigans and she expresses dismay, she prowls the very city she directs looking to list as many homes as possible when she has the unfair advantage of ‘knowing what’s coming?’ I’m not accusing, I’m asking….
Now, I’ve also heard she’s told all her employees not to read Orting News, so I know she and her employees will never read this, but shouldn’t certain outside of the Mayor office activities be excluded from her position? Whose to say she isn’t getting this inside information from the Mayor’s office and then funneling that to her cadre of ‘behind the scenes’ real estate helpers where we’re suddenly hit with a double whammy of;
1) She profits from an unfair vantage point of applicable laws, rezoning, variance, gorenment inquiries, et al
2) Half her commission from this knowledge goes outside of town (Shop Ortin huh Cheryl?)
3) OK…where do we start with the Write In Vote campaign for our next Mayor.
4) Thanks for another out of town headline spotlighting what an inbred ‘burg we are Mayor…

It is the mixture of skills and knowledge that each of the volunteer City Council members have that enhance the community. When members share the same background, have no different intellectual resources or all share the same views that a town is stale, outdated, and has no vision for the future. My hope is in the variety of Council members committed to the community.
