Do you feel that’s right?
The Mayor of Orting doesn’t want to ‘Read It and Be Reminded’ when it comes to what the community posts as newsworthy or worthy of their neighbors attention.

Unbelievable…does she think by ignoring what the people of Orting have to say that all the problems will dissapear? There is good, bad and ugly in any city, large or small…after reading of her apparent lack of interest in the communities opinions (good or bad) I can only think of her as part of the ugly. Very sad indeed.

Pitiful…pitiful at best. So is SHE saying that if we don’t find some way to fight the horrific travel on 167 and make it to her convenient little meetings and sit through Robert’s Rules of Order then my opinion doesn’t count? Only SOME people are worthy to air their views? This is the same woman that campaigned to spend $300,000 to pave the parking lot next to the City park? The same park that spent $$$ on a sprinkler system instead of another cop? I voted for you because you promised to listen to the voters, not enact an Orwellian Animal Farm…

Seems silly that she would want to purposely remove herself from receiving something that people in her town are using to voice their opinions and pass on information. It might have information in it on any given day that could impact HER town. What’s wrong with her?

Seeing that we are her town and some of us voted for her. I will be sure to take note when and if she chooses to run again for office. I think that if you are running in office you should be OPEN to hear what is really going on in town and what peoples real concerns are. If someone has something to say they are protected to say it and on top of that you would think she of all people would want to hear it so she can help to correct any issues.
We the people, for the people….. does she not have the same morals??
Cheryl if you want to turn and be blind to any situation you are the wrong person for that job.
I love the Orting News it is truthful because perception is reality.

I am sure with the article that was written
to the Mayor and council–They better have
a different outlook come election time. Or
maybe sing the song”BYE BYE LOVE”. Hope
I didn”t misspell.

It is a shame that we in a town where the mayor does not believe that providing information to the members the community she serves is that important. If she doesn’t want to hear how the citizens feel about how the city is being run, then that should be her re-election slogan:
IGNORANCE IS DIVINE IN ‘09!
SIDENOTE: If the mayor is complaining about this site bad mouthing people and being mean-spirited, I want to remind her just how incredibly NASTY the letters to the editor in the Gazette were. When I first moved here, I could not believe the personal wars being waged in a city newspaper. I have not seen anything on this site that comes close to what was printed in the Gazette… and that was coming from the mayors, ex-mayors, and council members!

**QUICK DISCLAIMER** I was not saying that the current mayor was involved in the Gazette flaming editorals that I read when I first moved here… I honestly don’t remember who they were, but I do remember that they held office here. Just don’t want my water being cut off or my house rezoned as the new sewage waste treatment center.

I was just at the tree lighting in town. It was very funny when the Mayor quipped to all present that she “couldn’t believe how many people were present and the town doesn’t even have a paper.” Clearly the Mayor is not interested in the town with unprofessional cracks like that. The Orting News is a great option for people to stay informed. I read it every time it comes out. Too bad the Mayor doesn’t, she might learn what is important to the citizens of Orting.

Poor Mayor, if you can’t handle the good, the bad, and the ugly, maybe you shouldn’t run again.
Also, let’s talk about the Gazette. Did they HAVE spellcheck, or a proofreader?
Merry Christmas to all of you!!

LOL it is rather amusing to read what the Mayor had to say about her/our community. Why would she turn her back on this site when it is a great way for her to see and read what people have to say?
Although I do like that idea the more I think of it now. I don’t want to pay my ticket so I will ignore it. *No I do not have a ticket was just making a point. I don’t want to pay for water so I will ignore that bill. I don’t want to listen to the Mayor again guess I wont. Oh yea that one is easy to do! Heeheehee.
Must be nice to live in a land where when you don’t like it you *click* it off. Hey maybe the Mayor has a cool remote that I can borrow? I am tired of hearing the kids whine so can I click them off to?

Looking forward to next December and the disbanding of the current administration. Orting has become a less-desireable place to reside over the past 3 years – our water/sewer rates have doubled and a school levy finally passed, yet they’re crying for more $$$. Also, routing school children and buses onto Whitehawk Boulevard while planning to make the road a business by-pass, which mind you, will not be any benefit to the residents in downtown Orting, but only to those up on Cemetary Hill and beyond – what are you thinking? All the dumptrucks and logging trucks and other traffic combined with small children will only lead to small dead children and, irritated homeowners due to the increased noise and the decline of property values. December 2009 can’t come soon enough for me !!!

If you want our Mayor to know what you think is so important then you need to be attending the city council meetings where the agenda provides an opportunity for us to express our concerns.
I would think the wisest way for our mayor to spend her time finding out the citizens point of view would be to use a forum that is specifically for that purpose & not some on line “News” site.

I completely agree with “Cori”. Rather than assume the Mayor doesn’t want to hear from residents, realise she has little interest in navigating this site looking for complaints to address. Sure, it is a hassle to attend a council meeting, but showing your face will go a long way to getting your problems addressed.
Orting is not immune to the national economic downturn. Tax revenues are down. Utility bills are up because the State is mandating improvements in waste water treatment.
Money for park lights and sprinklers came out of the Parks Budget. Parks monies cannot be spent on non-Park items.
I agree that there is a HUGE lack of communication between the city and its residents. The city’s Website(www.cityoforting.org) contains the minutes of past Council Meetings, but the lag-time is more than a month, which leads me to think Roxanne is already overworked, therfore it is no wonder she hasn’t the time (nor is she obligated) to post them yet again on OrtingNews.
A Rich Carr wrote, with OrtingNews, we have a tool to reach out and unify the community, to inform residents, to support our community. Rich is a good reporter and writer, and his editing skills are always improving. Orting News is a ship..if guided properly, it could become a vibrant, positive asset to Orting.
The Blog section, unfortunately, is mostly negative, and it seems to be adding to the wedge between the government and its citizens. Rich’s Dec 1 blog regarding the Mayor’s request to unsubscribe is a shining example of how destructive and downright hurtful blogs can be. Rich wrote he was ’shocked’, well, I am shocked that he would put Ms. Temple’s personal and private Email up in a blog! (Rich, you could have at least paraphrased it). With his blog, Mr. Carr has all but guaranteed that the current city govt will only increase their distance from OrtingNews. It is true that the Gazette was full of negatives, and nobody WANTS to read that stuff, but we couldn’t resist. Reading about the council infighting depressed me. They appear to have settled their differences, so attend a meeting or two and see how they are really trying to keep the city alive.

sorry about the typo’s -
Rich Carr’s blog was Nov 30, not Dec 1

Hello everyone,
With the day off, I chose to stop by the city offices on Train St., where I asked about the lack of information being posted on CityofOrting.com…I was told the person responsible for that is on maternity leave. Being a small town/city, I was willing to accept that her work cannot be simply “picked up” by anyone.
Because I didnt know what was involved in the Washington /Calistoga intersection improvement plan, I asked about that, and I was told if I attended the Planning Commision meeting, I would learn all I wanted to know.. but I was given a good verbal explanation of what is planned. The next PC meeting is Jan 5 at 7 pm at the new PS building.
Then I asked about the so-called Gratzer Park…where would it be?….it was suggested I attend the Parks Commmittee meeting Jan 7, same building, to collect information/ask questions.
So, folks, the best way to learn about your city is still the traditional way..we need to attend the meetings. Consistent, informational email notifications are still a ways off, even though the deisre for E-news has been made painfully obvious on this site.
